The men’s winter league commences this weekend (25th & 26th Oct), with shotgun starts on both Saturday and Sunday. While the 9-hole re-entry shotgun competitions earlier this year were a huge success, one common observation from members was that where a member played a straight 9 holes without re-entering, the subsequent 6 holes became mostly irrelevant.
To this end, and in order to keep members interested for the full 15 holes, the men’s committee have added a slight ‘tweak’ to the competitions this winter. While the competition will still be a nine hole competition, it will now be ‘an eclectic 9’ rather than a 9 hole re-entry.
What this means is that irrespective of what hole you start on, you will play a straight 9 holes and enter your scores accordingly. You then have the opportunity to better your score on each of the remaining 6 holes. In other words you will get two chances on the 6 holes that you play twice, with the best score on each of those holes counting for the purpose of your 9 hole score.
We hope that this will mean that members will have something to play for during their entire 15 holes. If anyone has any queries on, or issues with, how this competition works, please contact any member of the men’s committee, or Ian in the pro shop, who will be ‘happy to assist.’
The winter league will be a separate competition both days and there will be winner prizes of €30 for the 3 classes. Winners will be deducted 2 pts for a win for weekly prize but this will not be calculated in overall prize. Best 5 cards count.
The categories are Class 1 (1-11 h/c), Class 2 (12-17h/c) & Class 3 (18+h/c).
The overall prizes for the winter league are sponsored by “Blarney Hotel & Golf Resort”. Winners in the categories will receive a weekend away for 2 including 2 rounds of golf, 2nights B & B and 1 Dinner. The committee has decided that even though all members can compete in both Saturday & Sunday competitions that a member will only be entitled to one of the overall prizes.
This week on Saturday the competition will be on the front 9 and Sunday will be the back 9.This will alternate each week.
This is a member only competition and that there are no green fees. Members are reminded to arrive early to avoid queues in the pro shop for checking in and to car pool if they can.
Finally 2 dates for your Diary, Captains dinner is Saturday the 8th November and Men’s AGM is on Wednesday the 12th November at 8 pm.
