Rush Golf Club Open Week 2019

The week kicked off with a Team of 2- Any combination kindly sponsored by Bernard Mc Nally, John FX White and Ann O Dywer. It was a busy timesheet from start to finish with members and guests. As they day went on the scores began to reflect what was a peach of a day for golf here at Rush. With the wind mildly blowing and the rain staying away, the greens rolling beautifully and of course the rough playing its part in challenging the golfers. It came down to the final group on the course at the end of it all. Victory for Kevin Nugent and Eoghan Conroy at the last hurdle on day one of Open Week 2019.

Wednesday welcomed our Mens Open Singles however the weather played havoc in the morning and the timesheet swiftly changed multiple times with golfers looking for that little gap in the rain to play the competition. Wednesday was sponsored by Rotoform Solutions – Brian Fagan. The rain gear was tested to the max, with down pour after down pour, but the men put on a brave face and battled the elements in support of our sponsor. The weather favoured the evening golfers and called for a high stool afterwards. The Winner on the day was new member Brian Murphy.

Thursday, we saw a break in the bad weather as the ladies welcomed a Team of 2 event sponsored by Jones Engineering. Ladies came from far and wide to take on the Links. Again, the rough played its part out there and gave the ladies a great challenge on the day. Ladies from Balbriggan, Skerries, Donabate and Beaverstown showed their support for our open week and were very complimentary of our great facility, from the welcome on arrival to the delicious meal they tucked into after the golf. The winners on the day were Denise Moran (Rush) and Evelyn Tolan (Balbriggan).

Then came our final day of Open Week 2019. Our Club Classic took place on June 14th with two shotgun starts on the day for the Team of 4 event. The Club Classic was sponsored by Jones Engineering who have been an integral part of our Open Week for the past number of years. The morning players enjoyed a mild morning while the afternoon golfers had only dried the wet gear when a second down pour came down to see them finish out their round. With great determination and competitive spirit, the golfers stayed out and finished their game all in hope of winning the Club Classic for 2019. But before the winners were announced the masses had to be fed and that was left to Hugh and his team and they did not disappoint. A BBQ to feed the weary golfers was on the menu, and with very little encouragement needed they tucked in and discussed their ‘ What could have been’. The winners on the day were Denise Moran, Dennis Hegarty, Noelle Conway and Peter Hegarty.

Congratulations to all the winners of the week and again a huge thank you to our sponsors of the week and to Jones Engineering for their continued support and sponsorship of this great week. Thank you to Hugh and his team for preparing delicious meals throughout the week and to Ronan and his green staff for the immaculate course condition our members and guests had the pleasure of playing on for the week.

Until next year…….
